British peer, naval officer and wastrel, best known for bedevilling George Vancouver during and after the latter's great voyage of exploration. On 7 March 1804, he dueled with his friend, Captain Best; Pitt missed; Best did not. The bullet passed through his fifth rib, the right lobe of his lungs and finally into the sixth vertebra of his spine. He died from his wounds three days later. Link to Wikipedia biography
