Spanish pathologist, histologist and neuroscientist. Ramon y Cajal was the first to suggest that the neuron was the anatomical and functional unit of the nervous system, and it is largely because of his work that the Neuron Doctrine eventually came to accepted. He was an outstanding neuroanatomist who is regarded as the father of modern neuroscience. He made many contributions to our understanding of the organization of the nervous system, many of which were later published in Histology of the Nervous System of Man and Vertebrates, his magnum opus. He was awarded the Medicine Nobel Price (with Camillo Golgi), 1906. He died on 17 October 1934, Madrid, Spain. Link to Wikipedia biography
