American aristocrat, museum curator, collector of photos and American 19th century silver. Wagstaff was the principle inheritor of the extensive Wagstaff fortune, and a patron to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. His photo collection, the largest collection in the world, was sold to the Getty museum in 1984 and his silver was sold at a Christie's auction. He died of AIDS in New York City on 14 January 1987.
