About Pushya
Pushya: The Star of Nourishment – (Cancer 03 20’ to 16 40’). “O wise Maruts, let us carry off the wealth of food which you have bestowed on us; give us, O Maruts, such thousand-fold wealth as never fails, like the star Tishya (Pushya) from heaven” Rig Veda, V.55.13. The word ‘Pushya’ means nourishment or ‘to provide nourishment’, derived from the word ‘Pushti’. Pushya is considered to be the most auspicious of the twenty-seven lunar mansions. This is the eighth nakshatra in the zodiac, spanning from 3°-20' to 16°-40' in Karaka. The ancient name of Pushya in the Rig Veda was Tishya, the Celestial Archer. It has a deva temperament with the primary motivation of dharma, or right action. The chief deity is Brahaspati, the ‘High Priest’ of the Gods or the God of Divine wisdom. The Jupiter being exalted here reflects intuitive wisdom, good fortune and powerful speech, purification of psyche. Its power is to create spiritual energy ‘brahmavarchasa shakti’. The shakti of Pushya is “the ability to create spiritual energy”. All form of worship and spiritual practice are emphasized here. The ruling planet is Shani, or Saturn, which grounds the energy of this powerful nakshatra. It brings stability and enables creativity to fructify into entirely new forms. A vibrant tranquility, faith in oneself, and fullness of life can occur due to interaction of Jupiter and Saturn. It is laghu or light nakshatra which is excellent for starting a business or opening an office. The symbols for this asterism are a lotus, circle, arrow and the udder of the sacred cow. The flower represents the ‘act of blossoming’ and ‘the beauty and symmetry destined to be gained’. The circle reflects the possibility of attaining wholeness, with the arrow representing the attempt to hit the target with strength and power. The animal symbol is male sheep or more accurately, ram.
