Pierre Debrayritzen

French psychiatrist, physician and writer, who sought the physiological causes of certain psychological illnesses in children. In 1968, he actively participated in the "Group of Thirteen", a gathering of medical professors who, despite the events of May 1968, did everything to ensure that medical examinations could take place as usual. This group was supported by Edgar Faure, then Minister of National Education. From 1972 to 1988, he headed the child psychiatry department at the Necker Enfants-Malades hospital in Paris. In 1974, he became a professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Paris. In 1980, with the journalist Jean Ferré, he founded the Prix Élie Faure, rewarding the best art book of the year. He regularly hosted a program at Radio Courtoisie. The show was titled: Literary Art. Pierre Debray-Ritzen wrote, among other things, a psychology of literature, Les Nervures de l'Être, as well as two volumes of memoirs, L'usure de l'âme and Jusqu'à la corde, in which he evokes his youth, his studies in Medicine, and his fight in favour of children.
