American musician and bandleader of the Golden West Cowboys, voted the top country band 1951-1955. Due to his height of 5' 6" he gained the nickname of Peewee. King's family moved to a farm in north Wisconsin when he was a kid. His dad played in the local band and taught Frank to play the violin and concertina. At 14, he saved enough money from his paper route to buy an accordion which he taught himself to play. After graduating from high school, Peewee moved to Milwaukee where he played with different bands and was heard on radio stations. In 1934, he joined up with Gene Autry's band and when Autry moved to Hollywood, he took over the band, naming it the Golden West Cowboys. Playing his first hit on Grand Ole Opry, June 1937, he and his group became regulars. They did tours during WW II and post-war, hosted a radio show for ten years. King's first major success as a songwriter was the hit, "Tennessee Waltz." King died of a heart attack in Louisville, KY on March 7, 2000 at the age of 86. Link to Wikipedia biography
