Ardra: The Star of Sorrow – (Gemini 06 40’ to 20 00’). The fixed star Betelgeuse in the constellation of Orion, and Sirius, the Dog star are associated with this lunar mansion.
The word Aridra means 'soaked' and the symbol is Storm, rain drops. The primary symbols for Ardra are a human head, representing thinking, and a teardrop, which represents overcoming suering. This is the sixth nakshatra of the zodiac, having a spread from 6°- 40' to 20°-00' in Gemini. The ruling planet is Rahu, the North Node of the Moon, denotes the sharp, fierce activity of this asterism. Rahu is ruling planet and reflects their strong desirous nature. Aridra is ruled by Rudra, the fierce form of Lord Shiva is the deity of this lunar mansion who represents thunder. Aridra also means wet or surcharged with water.
