German Romantic poet, author and philosopher who greatly influenced later Romantic thought. His masterpiece is the Hymnen an die Nacht considered to be the climax of Novalis’ lyrical works and the most important poetry. Novalis had great knowledge in science, law, philosophy, politics and political economy. His last years were astonishingly creative, filled with encyclopedic studies.
