Dutch avant-garde (dada) musician, dancer and artist. As a painter, she used the pseudonym 'Cupera.' She married Theo van Doesburg on 24 november 1928 after moving to Paris with him in 1923. She was his third wife. After Theo van Doesburg's death in 1931, Nelly van Doesburg organized a series of exhibitions of his work. Many of his paintings are held in the United States, for example in the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim collections, because Van Doesburg was a friend of Peggy Guggenheim, who acted as her agent in America. The remaining collection of Van Doesburg, mainly consisting of archive material, studies, photographs and drawings, was bequeathed by Nelly van Doesburg to her niece Wies van Moorsel who donated it to the state in 1981. The collection is managed by the Netherlands Institute and the Netherlands Institute for Art History. Nelly van Doesburg died from breast cancer on 1 October 1975 in Meudon, aged 76.
