American football guard who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Buffalo Bills (1987, 1990–1992) and Seattle Seahawks (1993). Frerotte is perhaps best known for scoring three touchdowns during the 1992 NFL season, a record for an offensive lineman. He played in three Super Bowls: XXV, XXVI, and XXVII. He attended Kittanning High School and Penn State University. Known as "Pit Bull" by his Bills teammates, Frerotte often wore an elaborate mask of eye black during games. He was a well-known Harley-Davidson enthusiast. Frerotte is the cousin of NFL quarterback Gus Frerotte. Mitch Frerotte died from a massive heart attack at his mother's home on 11 June 2008, aged 43. The coroner's report attributed his death to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a genetic heart condition which the American Heart Association calls the most common cause of sudden death in young athletes.
