Polish surgeon, an eye specialist, best known as being the inventor of Esperanto, an artificial language for international use based on word bases common to the European language. It has self-evident parts of speech, a single and regular conjugation of verbs and a few simplified inflections. Zamenhof first thought of the international language when he was in school, writing out the detailed plan many years before it was published in 1887. He died 14 April 1917.
