American stage and screen actor who appeared both on and off-Broadway. He frequently did guest roles and had several popular TV series, including "Magnum, P.I." (1980-1988), "Ellery Queen," "The Betty White Show" and "One Day At A Time." His films include: "Chinatown," "The Last Picture Show" and "Blazing Saddles." In 1988, after 33 years of acting, he had done 23 films and several TV shows, saying that he was happiest when working on "Magnum, P.I." playing Jonathan Quayle Higgins III, the stuffy British major-domo who ran the estate. For his role as Higgins, Hillerman earned five Golden Globe nominations, winning in 1981, and four Emmy nominations, winning in 1987. The final episode of "Magnum, P.I." was aired on 1 May 1988. After Hillerman retired from acting in 1999, he returned to his home state of Texas. On 9 November 2017, he died at his Houston home at the age of 84. Link to Wikipedia biography
