American songwriter who wrote primarily for "The Carpenters." He met Richard Carpenter in 1967 as a fellow choir member in their Downey, California church. During the summer, they worked together at the Coke Corner at Disneyland. With four members of the choir, they formed the "Summerchime," recording nine tracks at a studio, then changing their name to "Spectrum." Midway through 1968, the group folded, and Richard began to record with his sister Karen Carpenter. Link to Wikipedia biography
