British-American novelist whose first novel, "Catherine Herself," was published in 1921 when he was only 20 years old. Hilton is widely known for "Goodbye, Mr. Chips," "Lost Horizon," 1933 and "Random Harvest, " 1941. These books, and others, all eventually became motion pictures.
