French actor, writer, and activist for the rights of autistic people, the son of Françoise Lefèvre (born 22 November 1942, Paris), a novelist of Prussian and Swedish descent. Horiot was diagnosed as Autistic, with Asperger syndrome, during his childhood. When he was a teenager, he asked his mother to call him Hugo instead of Julien. Like the famous autistic savant Daniel Tammet, he turned to writing as a means of breaking out of "his jail of dreams." Horiot's autobiographical books include L'Empereur, c'est moi (2013) and Carnets d'un imposteur (2016). In March 2017, in reaction to François Fillon's remarks about autism, Horiot announced his candidacy for the presidential election under the banner of the Party of Neurodiversity, but did so too late to obtain the required number of sponsorships.
