American international singer and pianist known as "the incomparable Hildegarde." During her heyday in the '40s, she was the highest paid of any cafe performer at $6,000 per week. Her famous trademarks were a rose, gloves and lacy handkerchiefs as she sang such songs as "The Last Time I Saw Paris," "I'll Be Seeing You" and "Lili Marlene" in eight languages. Deeply religious, Hildegarde was a member of the Third Order of the Carmelites. She had a fetish about aging well by controlling her diet, exercising and taking health supplements; she never married. In 1962 she published her book "Over 50, So What!" The chanteuse died at age 99 on July 29, 2005 in New York City. Link to Wikipedia: Hildegarde
