European author, aristocrat and philosopher. Born into nobility, he traveled extensively in the East and lived mainly on his remote Estonian estates until driven out by the Russian Revolution of 1917, when his property was confiscated. Moving to Berlin, he married Bismarck's granddaughter in 1919. Keyserling studied at the Universities of Dorpat and Heidelberg, trained as a Kantian Idealist. He studied science, eastern philosophy and became deeply interested in Oriental philosophies, especially Buddhism. Like Steiner, he drew heavily on Goethe for his philosophical and spiritual basis. He examined Theosophy, having visited Adyar in 1913. He wrote books, lectured and traveled, discussing his belief that understanding exists beyond words and that truth is subjective, and in the notion that thought is not merely a means of articulating reality, it is reality. Keyserling was fashionable in the post-war period, and in 1919, he settled in Darmstadt where he established a School of Wisdom. He died on 26 April 1946 in Aurach. Link to Wikipedia biography
