American scientific doctor of petrology (the study of rocks), a holder of numerous awards and founder of the mineral yoderite that was named after him. Yoder achieved his Ph.D. in petrology from Cambridge in 1948 and served as an aerologist in the Navy during WW II, 1942-1945.
