Russian royalty, a grandson of Czar Alexander II of Russia and King George I of Greece, and first cousin of Czar Nicholas II. His mother died six days after his birth, due to complications from the pregnancy, so he was raised by his uncle, Grand Duke Sergei of Russia, and his wife, Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, the former Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine, older sister of Czarina Alexandra. He was one of three central conspirators in the murder of the Siberian mystic Rasputin, whose influence on the Russian court was greatly resented, on 17 December (jul.)/30 December (greg.) 1916 in St. Petersburg, Russia. He died of uremia in Davos, Switzerland on 5 March of either 1941 or 1942 (sources differ). Link to Wikipedia biography
