French aviation pioneer, along with his brother René. In 1908, they flew a glider, "Romiotte 1," pulled by a horse. In 1909, they founded the "Aéroplanes Caudron Frères" (Caudron Brothers' Aeroplanes) association. In 1912, they created the first seaplane in history. They developed several reconnaissance planes for the French army. By 1910, they had created the first flying school in the world: The Caudron Flight School of Crotoy. In 1913, the flight school doubled as a military pilot school. Gaston Caudron was killed during a test flight on 10 December 1915 at Lyon-Bron airfield. On 1 July 1933, Caudron Aéroplanes was bought by Louis Renault who renamed the company "Caudron Renault." René Caudron left the company in 1939. Link to Frères Caudron
