Belgian zoologist, physiologist, and teacher, who wrote 121 publications, mainly on the physiology of arthropods. He also did research into muscle, digestive and respiratory systems of insects, describing their anatomy and morphology. He was the son of the famous physicist Joseph-Antoine-Ferdinand Plateau. He died in Ghent on 4 March 1911, aged 69.
