Chilean professional football player and manager, considered one of the fathers of Chilean football. Riera played for Chile in the 1942, 1947 and 1949 Copa Américas. He played at the 1950 FIFA World Cup, and managed the national team on home soil when they finished third in the 1962 World Cup. In 1962–1963, Riera led Benfica to the Portuguese Championship. He returned to the club in 1966 and led them to the 1966–1967 Championship. In 1963, Riera coached a FIFA XI team. That was the first squad FIFA XI team in history.
