German-Jewish post-Impressionist painter noted for her unique craft in her later creative period which today is interpreted as Expressive Realism. She is the subject of a 2015 biography, Emmy Gotzmann. Farbige Kraft in schwierigen Zeiten by Ferdinand Ruigrok van de Werve. In the last years of the Second World War, her works held outside Berlin were completely destroyed. Only a small part of her oeuvre survived the war at her parents' home and with relatives (including oil sketches, drawings and oil paintings). She died on 27 September 1950 in Berlin, aged 69.
