German painter whose work focused on still lifes and landscapes, especially from the Odenwald. Else Luthmer was a student of her father Ferdinand Luthmer and Heinz Wetzel at the School of Applied Arts and Wilhelm Trübner at the Städelschule. From 1899 she studied in Paris at the Académie Julian and the Académie Cormon. In 1909 she exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants. From 1904 she had numerous exhibitions in Germany. She settled in the Odenwald town of Lindenfels, where her parents built a summer home. Since the 1940s, it was constantly inhabited by Else Luthmer. She was married to the magistrate Ernst Otto Schwabe. She had two sons, including the SPD politician Wolfgang Schwabe. She died on 12 June 1961 in Lindenfels, aged 81.
