American jurist and attorney who became the California D.A. after an interruption of military service during WW II. He also served as the three-time governor of California from 1942. In both 1948 and 1952, Warren was unsuccessful in gaining the presidential nomination. He was named the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1953 as a liberal and influential officer.
