Infante of Spain, as the second son of Infante Juan of Spain, Count of Montizón and Archduchess Maria Beatrix of Austria-Este. He became the Carlist claimant to the throne of Spain under the name Alfonso Carlos I (also known as Alfonso XII) and the Legitimist claimant to the throne of France under the name Charles XII. On 26 April 1871, at Kleinheubach in Bavaria, Alfonso Carlos married Infanta Maria das Neves of Portugal, a daughter of King Miguel of Portugal and Princess Adelaide of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg.
