Corry Vonk

Dutch revue star and comedian. Her father was a stage manager in Theater Carré. She never received formal stage training, but at age twelve she made ​​her debut under director Nap de la Mar. At age thirteen, she joined the children's choir and sang in the opera Carmen. She later worked for Louis Davids and Eduard Verkade. On 28 June 1933 she married the almost ten years younger comedian Wim Kan. On August 15, 1936 they founded the ABC-cabaret. The cabaret company, left in December 1939 for a tour to the Dutch East Indies. During the Japanese occupation Corry Vonk was in the Japanese camp Tjimahi in Bandung, whilst Wim was on the Burma railway. In May 1945 she was transferred to the Makassar camp in Batavia. After the war the ABC cabaret resumed work. The role of the aging Vonk got more and more into the background. Wim became a Dutch cabaret star. Spring 1982 Corry Vonk suffered a brain hemorrhage.
