Indian Tara, a female guru known as Gurumayi, who became one of Muktananda's two successors at the time of his death along with Nityananda in 1982. She had formerly been his translator. She and her followers practice Siddha Yoga. The group is based in India but maintains a center in South Fallsburg, New York. Gurumayi's followers are said to include Peggy Lipton, John Denver, Don and Melanie Johnson. A birthday bash for her in the mid-'90s in Fallsburg was like a party for a deity with a 75-piece orchestra as she, swathed in purple and crimson robes, sat on a throne perched above 2,000 celebrants.
