American track and field athlete, the winner of the Bronze Medal at the World Games in Helsinki for holding the record on the indoor long jump. She is a member of a black, all-American family with three brothers, Carl, Mackie and Cleve, who are all champions. Carl won four Gold medals at the 1984 Olympics, Mackie, born in 1955, holds the country record in the 200 m. and Cleve, born 1956, is a winner of All American soccer at college. As a kid, Carol was a fine diver and gymnast. At 16, her mom persuaded her to concentrate on the long jump and make the Olympic team. She did it. Mom was still the boss when she would not let Carol make a trip to the Soviet Union by herself. "She didn't talk to me for a year," said Evelyn. "We grew up in a madhouse," said Carol, "Everyone going mad for track." Her folks ran a track club from the time Carl and Carol were seven and five, respectively. From the time she was a kid, Carol was outgoing, aggressive, a winner. Link to Wikipedia biography
