French scientist, the founder of paleontology and the most eminent scientist in the field of biology of his time. A devout Christian all of his life, as a youth he planned to enter a religious order but became increasingly interested in science. Cuvier became the head of the Natural History museum in Paris. Particularly intrigued by the comparison of the anatomies of species, he was so skilled in biological relationships that he could infer the shape of a creature from a few bones and reconstruct the animal, becoming essentially the founder of comparative anatomy. He died 5/13/1832, Paris. Link to Wikipedia biography
