French embryologist among the most active of his time, a professor of anatomy at Nancy, whose work on the histological processes of intestinal absorption is among the first in the field of histophysiology, and whose publications on the thyroid and parathyroid glands in collaboration with Eugene Gley opened the way to modern endocrinology. He died in Nancy on 9 May 1939, aged 78.
