About Him

B.V. Raman, the renowned Indian astrologer, was born on August 8, 1912, in a village near Bangalore. His early life and education were marked by a strong foundation in science and a keen interest in the mysteries of the universe. Raman's early education was in a village school, where he laid the groundwork for his future academic achievements. He later completed his collegiate studies in Science at Central College, Bangalore, where he also specialized in homeopathy and obtained a Diploma. This multifaceted education would serve him well in his later years as he delved deeper into the intricacies of astrology and its applications in various fields.

Raman's personal life was marked by a strong sense of dedication to his work and his family. He married Lokasundari Ammal, and they had two sons, Niranjan Babu and Sachidananda Babu, who would later assist him in his research and publishing endeavors. Raman's family life was also marked by a deep respect for his work, with his wife often accompanying him on his travels and supporting his endeavors. His family's support and encouragement played a significant role in his success, as he continued to push the boundaries of his knowledge and share it with the world.

Throughout his life, Raman received numerous honors and accolades for his contributions to the field of astrology. He was awarded honorary degrees from various institutions, including the Pythagorean University, the Akhila Bharateeya Samskrita Sammelana, and the Kumaon University. He was also elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a member of the Royal Asiatic Society. Achievements

  1. Establishment of Indian Council of Astrological Sciences (ICAS): Raman founded ICAS in 1984 to regulate the study and practice of Vedic Astrology in India. The council has chapters in various cities, including Bangalore, Madras, Delhi, Kanpur, Trivandrum, Patna, and others.

  2. Editorship of The Astrological Magazine: Raman was the editor of "The Astrological Magazine" for over 62 years, starting from 1936. He continued to run the magazine until his death in 1998, and it was later relaunched as The Astrological eMagazine by his son Niranjan Babu.

  3. International Recognition and Lectures: Raman represented India at the Astrological Congress in Cambridge, England, and the International Astrology Conference in New York. He delivered numerous lectures in various countries, including Germany, England, France, Italy, Austria, Holland, Canada, Japan, and the United States, addressing universities, medical associations, and educational institutions on astrology, Hindu astronomy, philosophy, and Indian culture.

  4. Keynote Address at the First International Symposium on Vedic Astrology: In 1992, Raman delivered the keynote address at the First International Symposium on Vedic Astrology in San Rafael, California, and was honored with the Life-time Achievement Award for his services to astrology.

Relevance of Astrology in Modern Times Lecture at the United Nations: In 1970, Raman became the first astrologer to deliver a lecture, "Relevance of Astrology in Modern Times," at the United Nations in New York.
