Zoltan Mason

Slovakian-American astrologer, a proponent of the methods of Morin de Villefranche (Morinus) and translator of Morin's Book XXI into English. Mason was the middle of three children. He was educated in the classics and attended university in Prague. Intent on becoming a psychiatrist, he quit his studies because of a severe thyroid problem. In 1929, he obtained a job at the French Consulate in Romania. Meeting diplomats and socialites, he became part of the international scene. In addition to his talent for languages, he was an ardent chess player. In 1945, he moved to Bucharest where he began his astrological practice. He moved to the US in 1948, settling in New York City and changing his surname to Mason. In 1950, he opened Mason's Bookshop at 789 Lexington Avenue. His bookstore and his practice flourished, and he became a radio and television personality. In 1974, he translated Morin de Villefranche's Book XXI "Astrologia Gallica" and published it under the title of "AstroSynthesis." In 1986 he closed his bookstore but continued his practice of astrology well into his early nineties. On July 14, 2002, Zoltan Mason passed away.
