American author, journalist, comedian, and the founder, editor and a frequent contributor to the freethought magazine "The Realist," 1958-1974, the first underground journal of the era which managed to shock and outrage his admiring readers with political scurrility, social and politically iconoclastic. Krassner became a key figure in the counterculture of the 1960s as a member of Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters and a founding member of the Yippies. A very hip guy, he spent a period of time doing standup acid comedy in the tradition of Mort Sahl and Lenny Bruce. In 1986, he put "The Realist" back into print, doing battle with the establishment and the forces of respectability. The final issue of "The Realist" was #146 (Spring, 2001). Krassner is the only person to win awards from both Playboy magazine (for satire) and the Feminist Party Media Workshop (for journalism). He died on 21 July 2019, aged 87, in Desert Hot Springs, California. Link to Wikipedia biography
