French physician and physiologist, a clinical administrator and a medical researcher who used animals in his studies, to develop techniques that later saved human lives. Bert was also known for his comprehensive research of health effects in air flight. His studies on altered air pressure and composition on humans was published in 1878 under the title "La Pression Barometrique." British physician Anna Kingsford, who became an impassioned antivivisectionist and a spiritualist, claims to have killed him along with Claude Bernard with her "spiritual thunderbolts for torturing and baking animals to death."
