Canadian-American actress and Hollywood star, who received a Best Actress Oscar for her role in "The Divorcee" (1930). She was the first person to be nominated five times for an Academy Award for acting, having been nominated for the following films: "Their Own Desire," "A Free Soul," "The Barretts Of Wimpole Street," "Romeo & Juliet" and "Marie Antoinette." Shearer has been praised not only for the control she exercised over her work, but also for her patronage of Hurrell, of M-G-M designer Adrian, and for discovering actress Janet Leigh, and actor-producer Robert Evans. In 1927 she married Irving Thalberg; two children; widowed in 1936. Six years later, she married Martin Arrougé, 11 years her junior. Shearer died of bronchial pneumonia on 12 June 1983 in Woodland Hills, California. Link to Wikipedia biography
