American actor, director and author, probably most widely known for his role as Lieutenant Sulu, helmsman of the spaceship, USS Enterprise, in the television series "Star Trek" (1966-1969). He also portrayed the character in six "Star Trek" feature films and in an episode of "Star Trek: Voyager." Takei's Facebook page has over 8 million likes since he joined in 2011. He frequently shares photos with original humorous commentary, and has been called "the funniest guy on Facebook." Takei came out publicly as gay in October 2005. He and his partner Brad Altman married on 14 September 2008 in Los Angeles. Takei is a proponent of LGBT rights and active in state and local politics.
