German music scholar, voice teacher, and composer, best known for his thematic catalogue of the works of Carl Maria von Weber. In 1833, he married Ida von Klöden (1816–1886), a daughter of Karl Friedrich von Klöden (1786–1856). Their son was the noted lieutenant colonel Max Jähns.
