Andrzej Grabowski

Polish painter. He studied in the years 1849-1855 at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow under Wojciech Stattlera and Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz . In college, he became friends with Arthur Grottger . From 1860 he studied at the academy in Vienna with Carl Wurzinger, then in Paris and in the Academy of Munich . In 1866 he settled in Lviv. In 1877 the efforts of Jan Matejko was a professor of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts . He painted historical portraits of the aristocracy and his contemporaries. His oil portraits, some are full of expression and good characteristics. The most important of them are in museums: in Lviv (portrait of Dr. Smolka), in Krakow (self-portrait and 2 in.) In rapperswylskich collections (portrait brothers Kozakiewiczów et al.). Also known is the portrait of Prince Adam Stefan Sapieha . He portrayed also Kornel Ujejski , Stanislaw Tarnowski and Antoni Kurzawa . His younger brother Wojciech Grabowski was also a painter. He died 2 September 1886. Link to Wikipedia biography (Polish)
