Dutch artist, graphic artist and illustrator. Peter Vos (English: Peter Fox) became famous in the Netherlands for his fine graphic illustrations for a large number of books, magazines and magazines. With a recognizable handwriting he painted with a sharp eye and sense of humor, animals, typically birds, people and masked combinations of them ("metamorphoses"). He became the most valued illustrator of the Left Liberal weekly magazine "Vrij Nederland", that was the cradle of Dutch investigative journalism in the sixties and seventies. He was interviewed by newspapers and on television and had many adepts. But he was an such extreme perfectionist, that he threw away in his eyes "inferior" drawings before accepting a drawing. His many admirers were glad if they could save his thrown away paintings, having only one wrong line, but he wondered what they saw in it: "Als je het mooi vindt, mag je het hebben" he said. In the documentary "Peter Vos - Vogelparadijs" of David de Jongh, many aspects of this genial artist are displayed. He identified himself with the "ugly" figure of Pulcinella of the Italian commedia dell'arte. You are not beautiful, was the message he had heard in his youth. He compensated for it by attaining tens at the Sint Bonifatiuslyceum at Utrecht, and became fascinated with the Greek and Roman mythology. He became an admirer and ardent searcher of the narrative poem "Metamorphoses" of the Roman poet Ovid, also called the "Books of Transformations". Though he had brilliant mind, was clever Lyceum student, he often said: "Het enige dat ik goed kan doen is tekenen" (the only thing I am good at, is drawing). And this was in his eyes 99% hard work and only 1% inspiration. End summer Vos heard that he had incurable cancer. Her decided to marry his mate Saïda Lokhorst. He died 6 November 2010 in a bar in Utrecht of a heart attack. Link to Dutch Wikipedia
