American stockbroker and key witness in the trial of Martha Stewart.trial for obstruction of justice, Fanueil took the fateful call from Stewart on December 27, 2001 instructing him to sell 4,000 shares of ImClone Systems, Inc. Prosecutors allege that Faneuil gave inside information to Stewart in their ten-minute conversation. At the time, Fanueil was an assistant stockbroker who had earned his license just four months prior. His boss, Peter Bacanovic, was away. Faneuil is expected to say that he acted on his boss’s instructions in exchange for certain job perks. He has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and agreed to cooperate in the Stewart investigation. The young man earned his bachelor’s degree at Vassar College in June 1997. One of Fanueil’s professors called him "one of the 10 brightest students I’ve had in my 12 years of teaching--a very, very intelligent and intellectually committed student." After graduation, Faneuil moved to New York, where he met his boyfriend, Robert Haskell, a fashion magazine editor and columnist. Together they led glamorous lives. Faneuil, however, became unemployed when Stewart’s call was traced to him.
